3D Laser Scanning
Traditional 3D computer modeling has been successfully used for project development and masterplanning in existing manufacturing facilities. However, it has been limited to large capital projects or applied to very minimal areas due to the cost and complexity of developing sufficient dimensional accuracy. This has been especially true for processing facilities where complex piping, limited budgets and personnel access provide constraints to this development. Yet, these are the facilities where having highly accurate 3D models of the existing equipment and piping arrangement are most critical to ensure compliance with process requirements during engineering and construction phases of the project.
Breakthrough laser scanning technology is now practical for both new and old facilities to develop comprehensive and precise CAD-based 3D models of their processing areas by converting point cloud data. This remarkable new tool can be applied to prepare engineering drawings, piping isometrics, or virtual 3D walkthroughs. In addition to typical applications, the detailed 3D modeling can be used for asset documentation, incident investigation and capital upgrade planning. This emerging technology has already been integrated in our project delivery services and proven in numerous processing facilities.
