Fresh water is a valuable and scarce resource. In many instances the cost for a recycle system is far lower than cost of freshwater and wastewater disposal and these systems have short pay periods. The treated effluent from wastewater system can be used for utilities, non-contact cooling, dust mitigation, irrigation, and house-keeping. This reduces the amount of fresh water intake, decreases disposed wastewater costs, and lowers risks of noncompliance and negative publicity
